Cleaning Air Conditioners
Cleaning Air Conditioners
Try to follow the manufacturers guide for cleaning and maintenance. Usually, during the in-use period, the filters need to be cleaned or replaced every 4 6 weeks. Foam filters need only a mild detergent with a water clean and rinse. Paper filters often cant be cleaned so replacement is necessary.
Use only water and mild detergent if necessary; rinse well.
The condenser coils need regular vacuuming or dusting to maintain peak efficiency.
Outside coils often get coated in pollution grime and need wiping down.

Cleaning Skylights
Cleaning Skylights
Skylights are difficult to clean unless the skylight is easlily accessed.
Professional window cleaning and squeegee kit, long or extendable handle, bucket, (window cleaning bucket rectangular in shape if possible) sudsy ammonnia, or mild soap,(such as dish soap) clean cotton rags.
Use a professional window washing applicator and squeegee on an extendable pole or broom handle so you can reach the interior of the skylight. Use a mixture of a few drops of dish soap per gallon of water. Dip the washer/applicator into the solution; wring out excess (window cleaning bucket is best so the washing attachment has an even application of water). Apply to window or skylight using pressure and wipe the entire window. Remove washer from pole and attach the window squeegee; squeegee off water from window with firm, even strokes in one direction, being careful to overlap your previous stroke as you go to avoid streaks. Wipe the rubber on squeegee with a rag in between strokes. Use the same techniques for the outside of the skylight or climb onto the roof. Again use the hand held washer and squeegee. Wrap a cotton cloth around the squeegee and wipe to soak up any missed water and to clean the skylight edges. Plexiglass skylights are prone to scratches so only use a washer/squeegee combination or a soft cloth to prevent scratches. When doing the inside of the Skylight be aware of the mess that will be made from the water and soap and take steps to protect the surrounding area.

Remove Tarnish from Brass
Remove Tarnish from Brass
There are many different finishes for brass accents, such as door knobs, faucets, or house numbers. Some are coated with a laquer finish, which can be damaged by aggressive cleaners and chemicals.
If the tarnish appears very spotty, the protective laquer finish has likely failed. A cleaner will restore the exposed brass, however the parts still covered with the laquer will remain dull. The ONLY way to restore damaged brass such as this, is to remove ALL of the laquer finish, and restore with a commercially avaliable metal cleaner/polish such as Brasso, Meguiars Metal Restorer, or Nevr-dull. These products all work well on Unfinished brass (No laquer). A good home remedy is to use ketchup and some salt or a cut lemon and some salt, which does work but not as effectively as a good metal or brass polish if the tarnish is particularly bad.
Technique:
Follow manufacturers instructions, however generally these products are applied, allowed to react for a few minutes, them rubbed vigorously to restore shine.
Adding several coats of paste car wax to protect this restored finish. Some pieces (such as exterior house numbers) which have been subject to harsh environmental conditions, may also be pitted. This type of damage is very time consuming to repair, so replacement is usually less expensive in the long run.

Gloves That Offer Better Protection....

Three Kinds Of Rubber Gloves
The short ones are surgical type gloves available in latex or vinyl (some folks are allergic to latex). Very thin so you can feel your work. With care they can be used several times.
The long green ones are much thicker but still thin enough to feel your work and they can be used many times, over and over.
Then there's the industrial strength, long, heavy duty gloves. If you are willing to trade off some dexterity, these will provide the best protection of any glove we offer. They last a long time!

Removing Paint From P
Removing Paint From P.V.C. Window Frame
Old paint is very tough to remove.
Try these techniques :
For old paint use a flat razor (which can be found in any hardware store) to scrape off old stain like that.
You do have to be extremely cautious not to scratch the frame. This is why we always will wet down the area we are working on with soap as a lubricant to lessen the opportunity of scratching or damaging the surface.
Also, some time after scraping some off, we use a general purpose solvent to clean off the rest.

Removing ivy from Outside Wall s
Removing ivy from Outside Wall s
We would suggest using a pressure washer.
Try these techniques :
Cover your plants beneath the area in which you are working so they don't drown - at least the water won't be harmful to them.
Use at least a 2000 P.S.I. (pounds per square inch) pressure washer. These are readily available from almost any rental store for about US$40 per day.
Be careful as the pressure will be high enough to actually chew away the brick and mortar.
You will have to find the proper distance from the wall to hold the wand - that is when the ivy remains are coming of and the bricks and mortar are staying on.
Be sure you're wearing your galoshes as this can be wet work!
